“Mom, I don’t want to speak my mother tongue”

OMNI Television is pleased to present the world broadcast premiere of this Canadian documentary to English language audiences this September.

“Mom, I don’t want to speak my mother tongue” launches to English Language Audiences as follows:

Sunday, September 5 at 10pm MT on OMNI Alberta
Sunday, September 5 at 7pm PT on OMNI B.C.
Sunday, September 26 at 7pm ET on OMNI. 2 in Ontario

Focusing on first generation immigrants and second generation Canadians, whose children do not speak their native language, “Mom, I don’t want to speak my mother tongue,” explores various opinions on the issue in attempt to unravel the causes and furnish possible solutions to prevent the loss of language.

“Mom, I don’t want to speak my mother tongue,” successfully investigates and offers solutions and strategies to preserve language as an important part of one’s culture,” commented Madeline Ziniak, National Vice President, OMNI Television.

The documentary looks at a variety of languages including: Hindi, Punjabi, Mandarin and Cantonese, and focuses on a range of important issues such as peer pressure, role of parents and grandparents, language in schools, and environment.

“I undertook this journey to better understand why there are some immigrant families that lose their mother tongue and others that preserve it and I came up with many interesting and informative observations,” commented Chandra Bambah, producer.
