Sampradaya Dance Creations – South Asian Cultural Leadership Program

SAMPRADAYA DANCE CREATIONS is excited to announce the launch of its South Asian Cultural Leadership Program supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation…“LEADERS OF TOMORROW”*Developed in consultation with Piali Ray, SAMPAD, Birmingham, England

If you are an emerging or mid-career artist, arts administrator or engaged in any form of arts practice ( dance, theatre, music, visual arts) and have a passion for the arts and a desire to grow as a leader in the cultural sector then you are the right individual to join this first ever Cultural Leadership Program for the South Asian Arts in Canada.

Who Can Apply?

• Those based in Southern Ontario

• Those who are 20 years of age and up


1. You should have had a total of at least 4/5 years’ work experience, either in employment, self-employed or freelance, working    within the cultural creative sector.

2. Demonstrate a strong passion for culture and the arts.

3. Expected to have made notable progress in your career(s) to date demonstrating self-awareness and a motivated personality.

4. Able to clearly see the potential to further expand your reach, profile and status within your sector.

5. Have relevant existing or transferable skills, but may lack the access or knowledge of the routes by which those skills can be fully maximized in the cultural sector.

6. Effective communication – in writing, speaking and in groups, comfortable with technology, negotiation, skilled in presentation and understanding of other people’s needs.

7. Demonstrate a broader understanding beyond your specialization and have an understanding of the global picture.

8.  Have the ability to analyze complex information and make sound choices.

9.  Have a clear understanding of your career direction and the type of support or resources you require in order to progress towards your career goals and/or strengthening of your leadership skills.

10. You must be committed to the program and attend all sessions.

What The Participants Will Gain?

• Strategic planning and implementing major initiatives and projects

• Board and personnel management

• Negotiation and advocacy skills

• Managing complex projects and collaborations

• Articulating vision and negotiating agreements

• Strengthening working relationships with peers and colleagues within this network and other networks province wide

• Media relations

• Developing presentation skills

• Fundraising for strategic and project activity

• Marketing and Audience Development

• Handling technology in the 21st century

• Governance and Charity Law

• Financial management

Who Will Conduct The Workshops?

Senior professionals and consultants from Canada’s arts and cultural industry

Where & When Will the LEADERS OF TOMORROW Program Take Place?

Where – Mississauga (location to be decided)

When – One weekend – in April 2011

Second weekend – TBD

Self-Directed Project group and individual work will take place over a 6 month period

How & Where Will The Selection Process Take Place?

Applicants will meet with Sampradaya management and consultant in the Sampradaya Dance Centre for a one-on-one interview.

Note: 8-10 applicants will be selected for the first phase of the program
